Daily Dose

A couple of things to cover in today's Daily Dose.

The Cowboy's made a few minor signings earlier today.  Tackle Cory Lekkerkerker was signed along with guard Adam Stenavich.  Neither have much experience in the NFL, Cory was released by the Dolphins this offseason and Stenavich hasn't played since 2006, where he was a member of the Packers' practice squad.  They will look to try to earn a spot on the roster, but more realistically the practice squad.

Two major players still remain without a contract for Dallas, and two Pro Bowl players at that.  Starting running back Marion Barber remains on the team with a one year tender deal that is worth $2.562 million.  After drafting Felix Jones in the first round in this years draft to be the compliment to Barber, it is essential that the Cowboys look to lock up Barber with a long term deal.

The other key player that remains without a major contract is safety Ken Hamlin.  After starting in the Pro Bowl this past season, the Cowboys chose to use the franchise tag on Hamlin.  He will make $4.396 million this upcoming season.  Jerry Jones will want to work towards signing both of these players to long term contracts and keep them on the team.

In other news, this summers training camp will start on July 25th, with the players needing to report on the 24th.  After spending three weeks at the Oxnard facility and being on tape the whole time for HBO Hard Knocks, they will head off to Denver and practice with the Broncos for a few days.  The following Saturday marks the preseason opener against the Chargers.

Tony Romo was at it again making headline stories over the past weekend.  After being somewhat criticized for deciding to try and qualify for the U.S. Open, Romo participated in activities at Wrigley Field during the Cubs game over the weekend.  Romo lead the way for the crowd in the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game."  Also, Jessica Simpson and Romo may have called it quits as far as their relationship goes.

WR Terrell Owens' reaction to Romo's Wrigley Field performance - "Wow, that was the most terrible thing that's come across my ears. Dude, you just get back in bed and wake up on the other side. Because this side is not working for me. Leave the scene to Jessica Simpson. What do you think, Randy? Paula?"

Owens was impersonating Simon Cowell, and was doing so in a humorous way.  Settle down folks, he isn't trying to treat Romo like he did to past quarterbacks McNabb and Garcia.  Meanwhile, Owens is doing a bit of camera work himself.  He is in the process of promoting his appearance in the show "Under One Roof", which is featuring Flava Flav.  Here are a couple takes of T.O. - One...  Two...

And lastly, to all who are concerned about the Roy Williams dilemma - don't be.  Words from owner Jerry Jones were quite reassuring.

"I have, candidly, a lot of confidence in Roy Williams' competitiveness, his record as an outstanding football player," Jones said. "I know what a competitor he is, I know what a team player he is and that hasn't changed as far as I'm concerned. And for us to be the team we want to be, in my mind, we need Roy to really be the player he can be. That's possible to do here. We've got outstanding coaching in our secondary, with Dave Campo and (Brett) Maxie, as well as Brian Stewart.

"And so I don't know of a secondary player in the NFL that has a better opportunity than our secondary players do because of our coaching staff and the experience they've had there. When I look at it, I see the chance for Roy Williams really to have a fine year for us and do what he wants to do individually. I have a lot of faith in Roy Williams."

That's all for today, check back tomorrow.
